A 21-year-old suspect in the arson of a wastewater treatment plant near the Shoket Junction appeared in the Beersheba Magistrate's Court for a remand extension hearing. Due to strong suspicions, his detention was initially extended by three days, while other detainees in the case were released due to lack of evidence.

The arson occurred at a facility housing the plant's electrical systems and machinery. The resulting fire caused a regional power outage and shut down the plant, causing untreated wastewater to overflow from storage basins and flood into the Hebron Stream, causing significant environmental damage.

Defense attorney Natalie Otten Assulin questioned the police representative, Sergeant Noa Osher, regarding the evidence linking the young man to multiple offenses including arson, weapons possession, conspiracy, extortion, and property damage. The police representative stated that the investigation is in its early stages and that the suspect's involvement level is higher than those previously released.

Judge Irit Kaufman criticized the investigative unit, noting that the case has been active for some time and other suspects have already been released. However, considering the serious allegations and the risk of obstructing the investigation, the judge extended the suspect's detention by three days, emphasizing that the 21-year-old has no prior criminal record.
