Gabi Fishman, acting head of the Information and Statistics Department and head of the Statistics Division at the Bank of Israel, will conclude his tenure at the central bank at the end of September this year, following 40 years of distinguished service. It was learned on Sunday.

Fishman joined the Bank of Israel as a researcher in the Research Department and subsequently held a wide array of professional and managerial roles. These included serving as the bank's spokesperson, the official in charge of economic communications, and an economic advisor to the Governor during the terms of Prof. Jacob Arouh Frenkel and the late Dr. David Klein.

Key Economic Milestones

Later, Fishman was appointed economic advisor to the late Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Upon returning to the central bank, he was appointed Chief of Staff to the Governor, the late Prof. Stanley Fischer. In this capacity, he oversaw communications, government relations, community engagement, and financial education.

Over the decades, Fishman was involved in major initiatives that reshaped the Israeli economy, including disinflation processes, foreign exchange market liberalization, and the legislation of the new Bank of Israel Law. Furthermore, he played an instrumental role in establishing the Information and Statistics Department.

"Gabi Fishman has filled a long and diverse series of professional and managerial roles throughout his years at the Bank of Israel, contributing in numerous fields," said Bank of Israel Governor Prof. Amir Yaron.

Looking Ahead to the AI Era

Reflecting on his departure, Fishman noted his pride in the department's recent adaptation to the artificial intelligence era and the promotion of data as a strategic asset for the central bank. Governor Yaron thanked him for his decades of dedication and wished him success in his future endeavors.
