Israeli automotive and transportation companies are increasingly expanding their footprint into European markets. Following successful moves by firms like Kolmobil, bus importer Auto Chen Mobility from the Barelilius Group is now entering Europe, targeting major tenders in Poland and Latvia.

Expanding with Chinese EV Giants

Auto Chen is partnering with major Chinese manufacturers Golden Dragon and CRRC to bring electric buses to European roads. David Ohana, CEO of Auto Chen Mobility, noted that Chinese manufacturers have surpassed traditional European automakers in electric vehicle technology, production quality, and cost efficiency, with Chinese electric buses costing less than a third of Western models.

"In everything related to electric vehicles, the Chinese have conquered the world. That is where the technology, knowledge, and production level are," said David Ohana, CEO of Auto Chen Mobility.

Overcoming Cybersecurity Challenges

Entering the European market comes with regulatory hurdles, particularly regarding cybersecurity concerns surrounding Chinese communication systems. Auto Chen addresses this by integrating compliant European communication systems into all buses destined for Europe. Furthermore, the company recently announced a joint venture with Israel's Egged cooperative to market CRRC buses internationally.

Local Innovations and Future Outlook

During a recent industry event, Auto Chen showcased a 26-meter electric bi-articulated bus from CRRC, set for a pilot with Superbus in Haifa, alongside delivering Israel's first intercity hydrogen bus to the Bazan Group. The company aims to operate hundreds of buses across European roads by the end of 2027.
