At the peak of the bathing season: two popular Haifa beaches closed due to pollution

At the peak of the bathing season, the Ministry of Health issued an announcement today (Tuesday) regarding the closure of two popular beaches in Haifa, Carmel Beach and Students Beach, following the receipt of abnormal microbiological results in sea water quality tests.

The official statement from the Ministry of Health reads: "The Ministry of Health is updating the bathing warning for Haifa's Carmel Beach and Students Beach due to abnormal microbiological results found in water quality tests. The Ministry continues to monitor the situation. Bathing is permitted only at declared beaches."

This announcement comes just a few weeks after two of the most popular beaches in the central region were closed to the public due to abnormal water pollution.

Previously, the Ministry of Health reported that Duga and Riviera beaches in Bat Yam were immediately closed for swimming following a sewage overflow from a municipal pumping station. Later, after an additional inspection, the Ministry announced that those beaches in Bat Yam had been reopened. It remains to be seen when the two beaches in Haifa will be cleared for public use.
