Ashkelon Woman's Remand Extended Over Friend's Stabbing Incident
A 26-year-old Ashkelon woman's remand was extended for three days over the suspected stabbing of her friend following a night of heavy drinking and drug seeking.
A 26-year-old woman from Ashkelon has had her remand extended by three days following suspicions that she stabbed her friend during a gathering involving heavy alcohol consumption and drug seeking. According to police and court proceedings, the victim arrived at the suspect's apartment late Friday night under the influence of alcohol. The two continued drinking and later attempted to acquire drugs, visiting the victim's home to retrieve credit cards before returning to the suspect's residence.
During the evening, the two women met a young man at a nearby store and exchanged phone numbers. The man later appeared at the apartment, where a violent altercation ensued. The victim sustained severe stab wounds and was rushed to Barzilai Medical Center, while the suspect allegedly attempted to conceal evidence by flipping a blood-soaked mattress.
Defense attorney Rinat Rosenthal argued that her client is innocent, claiming that the visiting man was the actual assailant and that he had threatened the suspect. Rosenthal also noted that the suspect has a psychiatric background and no prior criminal record, while raising concerns regarding her treatment during detention, including being shackled to a chair for hours. Magistrate's Court Judge Dorit Bonda extended the remand by three days, ordering an investigation into the suspect's claims and police detention conditions, while noting that a reasonable suspicion remains regarding the charges of aggravated assault and evidence tampering.
