Apple Cuts Over 200 Jobs
The tech giant is laying off approximately 100 employees from its VR headset team, with the remainder coming from the Siri and AI divisions. Apple stated that the move is part of a reorganization focused on advancing its artificial intelligence initiatives.
Apple is cutting more than 200 jobs across several teams, including the Vision Pro virtual reality headset division and teams working on Siri and AI integration, as reported by Bloomberg.
According to sources familiar with the matter, about 100 of the affected roles are within the company's VR headset team, which is currently navigating a challenging period, while another 100 positions are being cut from the Siri and Intelligent Systems Experience teams.
"We are working to develop our business to provide the best experiences for our users. While we will create new roles as part of this change, it will also impact a limited number of existing roles," Apple told Bloomberg, confirming the layoffs.
The move is part of a broader reorganization designed to pivot Apple's focus toward its new AI efforts and hardware development. The company is currently working to close gaps in the artificial intelligence sector while simultaneously managing a memory shortage caused by the rapid construction of AI infrastructure—a shortage that is already increasing production costs for its flagship products.
Last summer, Apple raised prices for Mac computers and iPads, and recently introduced a leasing program for its core hardware products in an attempt to reach a wider audience while passing on new costs. In the background, Apple is also pursuing a lawsuit against OpenAI, accusing the company of stealing trade secrets.
