British DJ and electronic music producer Aphrodite has cancelled his upcoming performance at the Gagarin club in Tel Aviv, citing fear of British media and BDS activists. The cancellation comes just a week before the event, dealing a blow to the local electronic music scene.
The party's promoter, Vladimir, known as Enum, expressed deep disappointment on Instagram, calling the move cowardly and cynical. He noted that this is the second time Aphrodite has pulled out of a scheduled performance in Israel.
The Impact on the Local Scene
"I invested a lot of time, money, energy, and above all, my heart to put on a major event here," Vladimir wrote. "I am truly disappointed and hurt that this is what happened—not just for me, but for the entire drum and bass community in Israel."
"The agency is once again throwing fans under the bus, deleting posts quietly, saving their PR in the UK, bowing to boycotts, and dodging responsibility for breach of contract," the promoter stated.
Party Goes On
Despite the cancellation by the headliner, the event will still take place as scheduled on Thursday, September 24. Ticket holders who expected to see the British DJ are advised to contact the production team.
Vladimir urged fans to continue supporting local events, emphasizing that defying boycotts is crucial to keeping international artists coming to Israel.
