Carlos Alcaraz surprised many on Wednesday by praising Alexander Zverev, claiming that the German player is "probably the best player in the world right now." The remarks came ahead of the Laver Cup, where the two will team up for Team Europe.
Zverev arrives at the tournament following a stellar season that saw him claim titles at Roland Garros and the US Open, alongside a run to the Wimbledon final. Alcaraz, who recently returned from a wrist injury, told Stan Sport: "He is probably the best player in the world right now. So having him on our team will be a great weapon to use this weekend. I hope we can secure some great points."
The Spanish star added: "I will try to cheer him on as much as I can. I missed the opportunity to lift the trophy last year, so I'll do everything possible to do it this year. I feel great, I'm training well, the US Open was a great test for me, and I can't wait to play here."
Reflecting on his return to London, Alcaraz said: "It's great to be back in London. I missed it this year. I cannot wait to see the stadium full and experience the crowd's reaction. I am quite sure we will deliver great tennis and an amazing show for the fans."
