Alcaraz Outlasts Paul to Reach Vienna Semi-Finals, Medvedev Books ATP Finals Spot
Carlos Alcaraz defeated Tommy Paul to reach the Vienna semi-finals, recording his 50th career milestone. He will face Daniil Medvedev, who secured his spot at the ATP Finals.

Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the Vienna tournament semi-finals on Friday with a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6(2) victory over American Tommy Paul. For the Spanish star, ranked third in the world and seeded second in the tournament, this marks his sixth semi-final appearance of 2026 and the 50th of his professional career. Alcaraz saved all five break points he faced against the 14th-ranked American and delivered 24 winners in an electrifying match before the Austrian crowd.
Following the match, Alcaraz praised his opponent: "I think everyone saw the points we played today. There were great rallies, incredible points, and spectacular shots from both sides. I am really happy and I truly enjoy matches like this. I am a huge fan of Tommy, honestly. I love his style, the way he plays, and I really enjoy watching him. For me, competing against him is always a pleasure. Today I just hoped everyone could enjoy this match as much as I did."
Alcaraz's next opponent will be Daniil Medvedev, who also secured his ticket to the ATP Finals for the seventh time in his career after defeating France's Adrian Mannarino 6-2, 6-3. The 30-year-old Russian, who missed last year's season finale after qualifying every year between 2019 and 2024, joins Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, and Ben Shelton in the tournament lineup. Jannik Sinner has also qualified but will miss the event due to injury, leaving four spots open for the season-ending tournament featuring the world's top eight players.
Medvedev is enjoying a resurgent and successful season, during which he surpassed the 50-win mark for the first time since 2023 and captured four titles. Against Mannarino, the Russian took control early with an opening service break, claimed the first set, and later secured another break at 3-3 in the second set before sealing the victory.
