Alanis Morissette sues Israeli woman for extortion, alleging drug offenses
The successful singer claims that Keren Orinov, an Israeli who worked temporarily as her tour manager, tried to extort her to hire her for 15 years after Orinov herself was caught with drugs at an airport.
Alanis Morissette claims that her former tour manager, an Israeli named Keren Orinov, tried to extort her with threats to report her for drug trafficking if she did not receive an employment contract for 15 years. According to court documents obtained by Entertainment Weekly, Morissette filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against Orinov, who worked temporarily on her 2025 world tour, alleging a calculated extortion campaign.
"Morissette will not succumb to pressure intended to provide her extortionist with an exceptional payment," the singer's lawsuit against Orinov states. She is suing to expose Orinov's scheme and bring her to justice. According to Morissette, Orinov demanded to be employed as a tour manager for 15 years and receive huge compensation, otherwise she would turn to the authorities and claim that Morissette was responsible for the drugs. Orinov previously served in a management role at Live Nation Israel.
The incident from which the story began, according to the lawsuit, occurred on July 12, 2025, while Morissette and her team were on their way to Spain. At Farnborough Airport in the UK, Orinov's bag was allegedly seized, which reportedly contained marijuana and xylazine, a veterinary anesthetic. A day later, when the team re-entered the UK, the British Border Force detained Orinov for further questioning — and there, according to the lawsuit, she admitted again that the drugs belonged to her.
After the tour ended, Morissette claims that Orinov changed course. According to the complaint, Orinov and her lawyer sent a series of increasingly extortionate letters, in which they threatened to file a patently frivolous lawsuit in the UK against Morissette if the singer did not tell British authorities that the drugs were hers. The lawsuit claims that the letters offered Morissette a way to end the matter if she agreed to hire Orinov full-time for 15 years, at a salary equivalent to that of a tour manager, with annual raises and bonuses. Morissette refused, noting that Orinov was also a poor tour manager; for instance, a mistake in booking a hotel cost Morissette almost 70,000 dollars (about 260,000 shekels).
Morissette is suing Orinov for civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation. She is requesting a jury trial and damages of more than 75,000 dollars (about 280,000 shekels). Orinov's lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment. 13 days before Morissette filed her lawsuit, Orinov filed a lawsuit of her own against the singer in London, in the King's Bench division. At this stage, it is unclear exactly what claims she is making.
