Syrian Leader Al-Golani Mocks Trump Over Golan Heights and Becomes Laughingstock

Syrian leader Abu Muhammad al-Golani revealed at an Atlantic Council event on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly that during his White House visit, he joked with U.S. President Donald Trump regarding American recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, suggesting instead that Trump give New Jersey to Israel.

Al-Golani's joke carried unintentional irony, as he used a biblical name to argue that Israel has no connection to the region. The word "Golan" appears in scripture thousands of years before the establishment of modern Syria.

According to al-Golani, "I believe New Jersey is full of Democrats who do not vote for Trump, so it would be good to give it to the Israelis. At least it is something you hold. Trump does not hold the Golan Heights."

Social media users heavily criticized his remarks, with one writing, "Does he really think he can talk nonsense and expect the world to believe him?" Another added, "The Israeli Golan Heights are populated exclusively by Israelis. Cry harder."
