Parents of students at the "Shirat HaYam" elementary school in Or Akiva held a two-hour strike this morning (Thursday) over complaints regarding a third-grade teacher. The strike took place despite administration pressure to prevent it, following parental criticism of the teacher, which officials later investigated and dismissed as misrepresented. According to parents, the teacher discussed her identity as an Arab Muslim, spoke about Islam and Arab society in Israel, and allegedly asked students who "hates Arabs" to stand by the board. Education officials explained that the dialogue actually began following an offensive remark made by a student about Arabs, after which the teacher also showed pictures of her family to discuss shared living in the country. School principal Ayelet Shahar informed parents that the incident was thoroughly reviewed by relevant authorities. Following the strike, discussions are underway between the parent leadership and the Ministry of Education district supervision. Educational authorities noted that while the initial claims described a severe incident, the investigation revealed a completely different reality, though acknowledging an error in pedagogical judgment during the classroom discussion that was addressed immediately by the administration.
