Air Canada postpones return to Israel again: flights canceled until January 2027

Air Canada has announced that it is extending the cancellation of its flights to Israel until mid-January 2027. The company had planned to resume operations at Ben Gurion Airport on October 24, 2026, but is now postponing its return again, leaving Israel without a direct flight route to Canada. A similar decision was made regarding the route between Dubai and Canada.

The move joins a series of foreign airlines that have chosen to extend the suspension of their operations in Israel, despite the security calm. American Airlines has extended the cancellation of its flights between New York and Tel Aviv until at least March 2027, while Iberia, which had planned to return to Israel in August, has also extended its flight cancellations from Ben Gurion Airport until October 24, 2027.

On the other hand, positive news is also coming from American airlines. United Airlines is preparing to resume operations in Israel and has provided its suppliers in the country with an update that the return date, September 8, 2026, is confirmed and expected to take place. United is expected to operate two daily flights from Ben Gurion Airport using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Delta is also expected to resume its flights to Israel on the same day.

The return of both companies may change the balance of power on routes to the USA. During the long period in which foreign companies reduced their operations, El Al and Arkia enjoyed a more significant market share. Increasing the supply of seats with the return of United and Delta may increase competition — and subsequently contribute to a decrease in ticket prices.
