Indictment: School security guard in the north engaged in shootout with illegal weapon

The Northern District Attorney's Office announced on Monday that it will file an indictment against a school security guard in the town of Yafa an-Naseriyye, who is suspected of engaging in a shootout at the entrance to the school while armed with an illegal weapon.

The incident took place last May. Following reports of gunfire at the school entrance, police launched an investigation, which revealed that the shooting occurred against the backdrop of a personal dispute involving the guard.

According to video footage and investigation findings, an armed individual on a motorcycle arrived at the school entrance and fired toward the guard post. In response, the guard returned fire using an illegal weapon.

The guard was arrested shortly after the incident, denied the allegations, and was released after several days under restrictive conditions. On August 24, he was arrested again following the collection of additional evidence. His detention was extended multiple times, and today the Northern District Attorney's Office will file an indictment along with a request for his detention until the end of legal proceedings.

Several months ago, two men in their mid-20s were murdered in a separate violent incident in Yafa an-Naseriyye. MADA teams arriving at the scene pronounced them dead. Police opened an investigation into the circumstances, noting the criminal nature of the event.

"Police officers were dispatched to the scene, began searches to locate the suspects, and opened an investigation into the circumstances of the case, with the background of the incident being criminal and the circumstances under investigation," the police stated.
