Abu Ghosh Resident Arrested in Drug Smuggling Attempt From Thailand
An Abu Ghosh resident was arrested for smuggling over two kg of synthetic drugs from Thailand disguised as printer ink, following a joint police and tax authority operation.
A resident of Abu Ghosh was arrested during an operation thwarting the smuggling of over two kilograms of MDMB synthetic drug from Thailand, concealed inside bottles labeled as printer ink liquids, according to a joint statement by the Tax Authority and the Israel Police on Sunday.
As part of targeted enforcement activities, the shipment raised the suspicion of customs drug unit investigators at Ben Gurion Airport. Initial checks revealed suspicions that the bottles contained synthetic drugs destined for an Abu Ghosh resident.
Following the investigation, police detectives tracked the shipment until it reached the Yad Binyamin area. Upon the suspect's arrival to collect the package, he was arrested for questioning, and the seized material was transferred for further police analysis.
During his interrogation, the suspect claimed he was unaware the package contained drugs and that a family member staying in Thailand had asked him to collect it. The suspect was brought before a court for a remand hearing, and the investigation continues.
Separately, Cyprus Police announced last week that they arrested four individuals in Limassol—an Israeli couple and a Palestinian couple—in possession of over 126 kilograms of ketamine, alongside quantities of cocaine, mephedrone, and MDMA.
