Two former male football players and one former female football player have been arrested on suspicion of match-fixing in the women's football Premier League. According to investigators, the suspects operated an organized and systematic betting mechanism designed to generate profit from illegal wagers.
The investigation was conducted by the YALEK (National Unit for Economic Crimes) within Lahav 433, in cooperation with the Football Association. The three suspects, who previously played in various football leagues, were taken into custody on Thursday.
Authorities believe the individuals influenced match results in exchange for monetary payments. The Sports Bribery and Betting Division is currently examining the full scope of the operation, identifying other potential accomplices, and tracing the sums of money handled by the network.
"The Israel Police will continue to act decisively against corruption, match-fixing, and illegal betting, which undermine the integrity of sports and public trust," the police statement read.
