A San Francisco couple is trying to solve the mystery of a large limestone statue, weighing about 68 kilograms, found buried in their yard. Greg Gathwood discovered the piece by chance while gardening, initially mistaking it for a block of concrete.

Greg Gatwood and Judy Gittelson found a carved limestone statue in the ground that may be related to the city's artistic past. The clues point to the Art Institute across from their home – and perhaps to artist Ralph Stackpole.
