Draft Dodgers

About 50,000 out of 60,217 draft dodgers are Haredim. The number of candidates for security service declared as draft dodgers or issued 'Order 12' has increased by about 95,000 since the end of 2024. At the same time, the IDF is expanding service tracks and adaptations for the Haredi public, whose recruitment rate has risen.

At the peak of the rush and moments before the airlift to Uman, ultra-Orthodox draft dodgers were caught by Ben Gurion Airport security teams. A check revealed active draft orders preventing their departure from the country.

A few weeks ago, the Tax Authority began revoking tax benefits only from yeshivas that requested the appropriate approvals for the first time. Now, the Authority is demanding that all Haredi institutions declare that no draft dodgers from IDF service are studying there.

Approximately 82,000 young ultra-Orthodox men have been declared draft dodgers or are in the final stages of that process. They account for 81% of all individuals currently evading military service.

Haredim opposing IDF conscription have launched protests following the arrest of a draft dodger. Police have warned of significant traffic congestion from the Aluf Sadeh interchange to Em HaMoshavot and along the Jabotinsky axis in Bnei Brak.

After Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara asked the Supreme Court to make the interim injunction against the law freezing arrests of ultra-Orthodox draft dodgers permanent, Knesset Legal Advisor Sagit Afik also challenged the legislation. She stated that the process failed to meet the required legal standards.
