The extreme heatwave that has hit Spain has made the traditional folding fan, the abanico, an essential accessory across the country — from crowded subway cars to sun-drenched plazas. Both women and men are now embracing the accessory, which originated in the 15th and 16th centuries, and whose price starts at 5 euros and can go much higher.
