Yochananof supermarket chain is launching a major technological rollout across its branches, deploying the fourth generation of smart shopping carts developed by Cust2Mate. As part of the initiative, approximately 4,000 smart carts are expected to operate across the chain, enabling customers to scan products while shopping, track prices and discounts, and complete payment at the end of the trip without waiting in traditional checkout lines.

Initial Deployment and Expansion Schedule

Initial rollout has already begun at two branches. In the Segula branch in Петах-Тиква, 100 new-generation carts have been deployed, while 150 carts were placed at the Centro branch in Реховот. According to reports, starting in October, the integration is set to expand to 27 additional branches at a planned rate of three branches per week, until the full deployment of about 4,000 carts is completed across the chain.

"The system is designed to create a more seamless shopping experience, reduce wait times and congestion at the checkout area, and provide customers with real-time control over their basket," company representatives noted.

Advanced Technology and Loss Prevention

The system is based on the ShopMate unit, which attaches to a standard shopping cart and centralizes purchasing actions in one place. Customers can log into the loyalty club, load a shopping list, receive information on coupons and promotions, scan items, and view added products, prices, discounts, and the running total directly on the screen. Payment is completed by scanning a QR code displayed on the cart's screen.

The carts also feature advanced systems designed to detect discrepancies between scanned items and those placed in the basket. Combining barcode scanning, security scales, cameras, Computer Vision, and AI, the system can display an item's image and guide the customer to correct the gap independently, or alert store staff when necessary to enhance loss prevention.
