Former Wolfson Medical Center Director Dr. Yitzhak Berlovitz Dies at 77
Dr. Yitzhak Berlovitz, former head of Wolfson Medical Center and a key architect of Israel's public healthcare reforms, has died at 77.
Dr. Yitzhak Berlovitz, former director general of the Wolfson Medical Center and a key figure in promoting the National Health Insurance Law, passed away yesterday on his 77th birthday. His funeral will be held tomorrow in the presence of family members only.
Born in Vilnius, Lithuania in 1949, Berlovitz immigrated to Israel in 1958, initially settling in Holon before later moving to Tel Aviv. He completed his medical studies at the Tel Aviv University Sackler Faculty of Medicine.
Throughout his career, Berlovitz held numerous senior positions in public healthcare. In 1997, he was appointed deputy director general of the Ministry of Health, and later served as director general of Wolfson Medical Center from 2006 to 2017.
Wolfson Medical Center mourned his passing, stating: "The medical center bows its head and announces with deep sorrow the passing of Dr. Yitzhak Berlovitz, former director general of Wolfson. Dr. Berlovitz leaves behind a legacy of public service, leadership, and a deep commitment to the health and welfare of Israeli citizens."
