Every time a new season of The Masked Singer airs, social media feeds fill with a familiar phenomenon: celebrities whose names are tossed around leverage prime-time hype, posting clever stories and teasing followers with mysterious hints. However, this time, the rumor mill crossed the boundary from entertainment gossip straight into the newsroom.

The mystery surrounding the contestants' identities in the current season has become the talk of the town, placing Channel 12 news correspondent and commentator Yaron Avraham at the center of a storm. Viewers have flagged him as a prime suspect hidden beneath the Tomato costume.

Following the wave of speculations and clues broadcasted on the show, Avraham decided to address the matter in an entertaining home video posted online. In the clip, he discusses the rumors with his wife, Yael. "Do you think I'm the Tomato?" Avraham asked, aiming to debunk the claims, only to be surprised when Yael refused to immediately dismiss the idea.

"Look, honestly, it's not far-fetched," she replied, prompting a bewildered response of "Come on" from the news reporter. Yet Yael insisted, breaking down the broadcasted clues one by one. "The voice sounds similar," she noted first, before pointing out precise parallels to her husband's life: "Connected to religion, that's accurate."

When it came to a clue involving food, Yael found a seamless match to their household reality: "Mom's food, a mama's boy. There's a pot of kubbeh here every Friday." Asked by Avraham if she genuinely believed there was a chance, she stood firm: "There's a situation, there's a chance. It's not far-fetched."

After Avraham questioned her once more with a disbelieving "Not far-fetched to you?" and received a confirmation, he chose to conclude the video with a sweeping denial to ease at least some fans: "Fine, okay, I am not the Tomato, just to clear things up"—leaving viewers to keep guessing who lies inside the red costume.

The fifth season of The Masked Singer premiered on Keshet 12 in mid-October, bringing back the national guessing craze. The current season features an expanded and intriguing judging panel—including Ofira Asayag, Shahar Hason, and Tzedi Tzarfati alongside newcomers Bar Refaeli and Moshe Peretz, hosted by Ido Rosenblum—alongside an especially surprising lineup of costumes.
