Yair Golan Outlines Opposition Unity and Security Strategy for Future Government
The Democrats leader Yair Golan outlined coalition priorities in a radio interview, stressing the need for a state inquiry, equal enlistment, and replacing Hamas rule.
Yair Golan, leader of The Democrats party, outlined his vision for a future coalition government in an interview with Radio North 104.5FM on Sunday morning. He emphasized that despite ideological differences among opposition factions, broad agreement exists on core national priorities.
"The future coalition will encompass ideological gaps, but we share agreement on essential issues: forming a government without the current coalition and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, establishing an immediate state commission of inquiry, and advancing equal military enlistment for all young Israelis," Golan stated.
Security Strategy and Gaza
Addressing security matters, Golan stressed the need to capitalize on IDF achievements in the Gaza Strip by replacing Hamas rule through an alternative governing body in areas controlled by the military. He criticized the current administration for allegedly wasting military gains and perpetuating Hamas capabilities.
"We will act in accordance with the baseline principles of a peace council plan alongside the Americans, Saudis, and Jordanians. We can accomplish tremendous things, but we must operate the diplomatic and military tracks simultaneously," Golan noted.
Public Service and Accountability
Turning to the civil service and security leadership, Golan asserted that public officials must demonstrate absolute loyalty to the state rather than political actors. He underscored the necessity of restoring public trust in the Israel Police and ensuring state institutions remain entirely impartial.
Finally, referencing a recent security incident involving an attempted takeover of a flight carrying Israeli passengers, Golan criticized government preparedness, arguing that authorities must rigorously evaluate and prepare for all potential extreme scenarios.
