Yael Bar Zohar shared an emotional clip from her documentary journey to Boston, opening up about the murder of her nephew Ilai Baram at the Nova festival and urging Jewish youth abroad to keep breathing.
Ahead of the broadcast of the documentary 'The American Sabras' on Channel 13, Israeli television personality Yael Bar Zohar shared an emotional video from her journey to the Israeli-Jewish community in the United States. During a meeting with members of the Tzofim scouting movement in Boston, Bar Zohar touched upon the personal grief that has accompanied her and her family since October 7—the tragic murder of her husband Guy Zu-Aretz's nephew, Ilai Baram, at the Nova music festival in Re'im.
In the interview segment, Bar Zohar struggled to hold back her tears as she spoke to the teenagers. 'Wait,' she asked the cameras to pause for a moment, before sharing: 'On October 7, I lost my nephew, Ilai. He was 27 years old. Here there is like a puzzle of a Star of David, and a piece is missing, and I feel as if a piece of my heart, my family, and myself has been torn away.'
Alongside her personal mourning, Bar Zohar chose to pass on a spiritual message left behind by Ilai to the youth in Boston. He was an ice bath instructor who firmly believed in breathing techniques, always reminding his family and friends not to forget to breathe, especially when facing difficult situations abroad amid rising antisemitism. Sharing the clip on social media, she noted that the documentary reflects how the war and October 7 have impacted Israelis living on the other side of the world, whose hearts remain firmly rooted at home.
