Millions of WhatsApp users worldwide are adapting to a significant interface redesign implemented by Meta Platforms. Tapping the top of the chat screen, where the contact or group name appears, no longer opens a separate profile page by default. Instead, the action now triggers a floating control panel from the bottom of the screen.

The new floating menu consolidates the most frequently used daily actions into a single accessible location, eliminating the need to navigate through deep settings menus. Users can instantly access quick keyword searches within the chat, review shared media and documents, manage disappearing messages, adjust mute settings, change chat wallpapers, or block the contact entirely. A dedicated button remains at the top of the panel for those who still wish to view the traditional full profile.

Meta Platforms stated that the redesign aims to streamline user experience and reduce friction during daily messaging. Internal usage analysis indicated that users frequently tap profile headers merely to execute basic utility tasks rather than inspect full profile details. This optimized layout allows users to complete actions within seconds and return to their conversations without losing context.

Alongside the navigation update, Meta Platforms introduced visual refinements to typography and iconography at the top of the chat interface. These adjustments ensure optimal text legibility across both dark and light themes, as well as complex custom chat backgrounds.

The updated version is currently rolling out globally across the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Because the deployment is occurring in phased waves, users who do not yet see the floating interface on their devices should expect it to arrive automatically in the coming weeks.
