Think it's healthy? The drink that might hinder weight loss

We all know that moment at noon: the heat outside is oppressive, the craving for something sweet and refreshing intensifies, and we reach almost automatically for a "sugar-free" or "zero calorie" drink. However, according to experts, the choice that seems healthier does not always help with weight loss, and sometimes may even achieve the opposite result.

According to nutritionists, artificial sweeteners can confuse the body's hunger and satiety mechanisms. The brain expects to receive sugar due to the sweet taste, but in practice, it does not receive it. In addition, there are studies indicating that they may affect the composition of gut bacteria, which could impair the balance of the digestive system and efforts to lose weight.

Instead of choosing processed diet drinks, nutritionist Lubnit Batra from Delhi recommends switching to natural and traditional drinks that may contribute to digestion, hydration, and a feeling of satiety throughout the day. Among her recommendations are four simple-to-prepare drinks that can serve as a more refreshing and healthier alternative:

  1. Buttermilk — rich in natural probiotics. The drink helps nourish friendly gut bacteria, supports the digestive process, provides a feeling of satiety, and contributes to maintaining the body's fluid balance.

  2. Sattu Sharbat — made from roasted chickpea flour, which provides protein and dietary fiber, helps maintain stable energy levels, and supports weight management.

  3. Fresh mint lemonade — considered a refreshing summer drink, it may also help soothe the stomach and reduce feelings of bloating. The combination of lemon and mint provides a sense of freshness and lightness, without the need for artificial sweeteners or unnecessary additives.

  4. Fresh coconut water — rich in natural electrolytes and helps replenish fluids in the body, especially after physical activity or on hot days. It provides natural hydration without added sugar and helps maintain fluid balance.

Bottom line, if you are looking for a healthier way to refresh yourself in the summer, it may be worth preferring natural drinks over processed diet options. Beyond their potential contribution to the digestive system and hydration, they provide a simpler and more nutritious alternative for your daily drinking routine.
