US Suspends Microsoft and Tech Giants from Permanent Residency Program
The US administration suspended Microsoft, Adobe, and other tech giants from a permanent residency program for skilled foreign workers, citing fraud concerns and a push to hire more Americans.
The US administration has suspended Microsoft, Adobe, and several other major global IT companies from a program allowing skilled foreign workers to obtain permanent residency. Government officials announced the move on Thursday, citing suspected fraud and a desire to push companies to hire more Americans.
"Our message to Microsoft is: you are a great American company, but you must hire great American workers," said Vice President JD Vance. Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling added that the suspension also applies to Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCL, and Capgemini.
Simultaneously, Vance announced that nine universities, including Harvard, Yale, and Stanford, will be investigated on suspicion of bringing in foreign students to depress American wages. Labor Department Inspector General Anthony D'Esposito stated that subpoenas have already been issued in the matter.
