Netanyahu Aide Jonatan Urich Heckled at Polling Station Amid Scrutiny
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's aide, Jonatan Urich, faced hostile protests at a polling station ahead of the Knesset elections amid ongoing legal scrutiny regarding foreign ties.
Jonatan Urich, a close adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, faced hostile heckling on Tuesday while casting his ballot at a polling station ahead of the 26th Knesset elections. Several bystanders hurled insults at Urich, shouting "traitor" and demanding he move to Qatar.
"Jonatan Urich, did you vote for Qatar? You traitor. Jonatan Urich is a traitor. War criminal. Go to Qatar, vote for the sultan," one citizen shouted at the prime minister's aide. Urich remained unfazed by the hostile shouts and continued on his way.
Urich has long served as a key media and strategic adviser to Netanyahu, managing his social media campaigns and political communications for the Likud party. His prominent role has frequently placed him at the center of public attention and ongoing legal scrutiny.
In June, an indictment was filed against Urich in the classified documents affair involving the German newspaper Bild. The charges include transmitting confidential information with the intent to harm state security, possessing classified material, and destroying evidence. The legal proceedings are ongoing, and the charges do not constitute a proof of guilt.
Furthermore, Netanyahu's aide has faced questioning over suspected ties to entities advancing Qatari interests during wartime, including allegations of contact with a foreign agent, bribery, and money laundering. According to media reports, Urich received substantial payments through Perception, a company owned by Srulik Einhorn, alongside funds tied to foreign projects.
Investigators revealed that Urich received multiple payments between January and September 2024, ranging from tens of thousands to over 200,000 shekels per month. Reports indicated that part of these funds originated from foreign projects aimed at promoting Qatar internationally.
