End of an Era: Yael Barzilay Steps Down After 26 Years at United Airlines

Yael Barzilay, managing director of United Airlines in Israel, is stepping down after a distinguished 26-year career with the major American carrier. Her departure marks the conclusion of an era for both her professional journey and the airline's local operations, having served as a central pillar in connecting Israel to the USA.

Barzilay began her aviation career as a flight attendant before climbing the ranks to lead local operations. Over more than two decades, she cultivated vital business relationships across the tourism and travel sectors, bridging transportation authorities in Israel and the USA.

Resumption of Flights and Fleet Expansion Plans

United Airlines recently resumed its daily flights between Tel Aviv and Newark following a prolonged hiatus. The carrier is systematically rebuilding its presence in the Israeli market with clear timelines for future route restorations.

"United Airlines remains committed to maintaining a robust bridge between Israel and our major North American hubs, supporting ongoing travel and economic ties."

  • Chicago and Washington D.C.: Routes are scheduled to return during October.

  • Newark: Frequencies are planned to increase in the near future.

  • San Francisco: Direct flights from Tel Aviv are slated to resume in March 2027 with three weekly frequencies.

As of now, United Airlines has not yet announced a successor to fill Barzilay's position and lead its operations in the country.
