OnlyFans star sentenced to six years in prison for manslaughter of former partner
Courtney Clenney has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to the manslaughter of Christian Obumseli in their Miami apartment. Due to time already served, she could be released in approximately 18 to 20 months. Prosecutor Shawn Abuhoff stated that the defendant has accepted criminal responsibility for her actions.
OnlyFans star Courtney Clenney has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to the manslaughter of her former partner, Christian Obumseli, in their Miami apartment. According to reports, the 30-year-old Clenney has been in custody since August 2022, and due to time already served, she could be released in approximately 18 to 20 months. Had it not been for the plea deal, she would have faced trial for second-degree murder and a potential sentence of up to 30 years in prison.
"She has accepted criminal responsibility for her actions, and the state is prepared to accept her plea," said prosecutor Shawn Abuhoff after Judge Andrea Ricker Wolfson requested the prosecution's position.
Following her release, she will serve five years of probation and will be required to undergo evaluation and treatment for mental health and substance abuse.
Clenney—an influencer with over 1.7 million Instagram followers—appeared at the hearing in an orange jumpsuit, without makeup and with disheveled hair, a stark contrast to her social media persona, where she was known as Courtney Tailor. She was arrested in Hawaii, where she was undergoing treatment for addiction and PTSD, after the prosecution reopened the investigation into Obumseli's death.
It was stated in court that the couple's relationship was extremely volatile, with numerous incidents of violence reported. Clenney's attorneys argued that 27-year-old Obumseli was violent toward her and portrayed her as a victim of domestic abuse. Conversely, Obumseli's family maintains that he was the victim of domestic violence.
Obumseli's cousin read a victim impact statement in court written by his mother, Oseo Obumseli, describing the family's profound grief:
"This was the darkest day of my life. Since April 4, I have been living with fear, anxiety, sleepless nights, a broken heart, and more tears than I can count. There was joy in my life and in my family's life that never fully returned. The loss of Christian did not end on April 4. We carry it with us every day. Christian, your legacy and memory will remain with us. We miss you, we love you. May you continue to rest in peace, my son."
Obumseli family attorney Larry Handfield said after the hearing that the guilty plea provided the family with closure. "I don't think there is anything she could say that would change what happened," Handfield said. "The most important thing is that the family wanted someone to be held accountable, and the family saw that today. Courtney Clenney is a convicted felon for the rest of her life."
