Silicon Valley Unicorn Unconventional AI Acquires Israeli Startup NeuReality
Israeli chip startup NeuReality has been acquired by Silicon Valley unicorn Unconventional AI for up to $200 million, integrating its team to advance energy-efficient AI processors.

Israeli chip startup NeuReality is concluding its journey as an independent company, being acquired by Silicon Valley-based unicorn Unconventional AI for $150 million to $200 million in a cash-and-stock transaction. Founded in 2019 by Moshe Tanach, Zvika Shmueli, and Yossi Kassis, the company developed AI inference processors and network interface controllers (NICs). The acquisition integrates roughly 40 Israeli employees from Caesaria and Tel Aviv into Unconventional's team, while some sales, marketing, and finance personnel will face layoffs due to redundancies.
Unconventional AI, led by serial entrepreneur Naveen Rao, previously secured $475 million in a seed round at a $4.5 billion valuation, backed by prominent investors including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, and Lightspeed. The startup is developing an AI chip utilizing analog circuits—specifically coupled oscillators—designed to operate with extreme energy efficiency, aiming for a thousand-fold improvement over conventional silicon processors.
While NeuReality raised a total of $105 million throughout its lifespan, reaching a $220 million valuation in July 2023, the exit provides moderate returns to its primary investors, including Varana Capital, Cardumen Capital, XT, and Samsung Ventures. Industry analysts note that the deal underscores the challenges faced by Israeli semiconductor startups in securing direct funding from premier Silicon Valley venture funds, making strategic partnerships with major US tech entities essential for survival.
