Kalandia resident arrested for attempting to dig tunnel into Israel

Border Police (Magav) fighters from the Jerusalem Envelope unit have arrested a 36-year-old resident of the Kalandia camp after he allegedly dug a shaft near the security fence route. During his initial interrogation, the suspect admitted that his intention was to dig a tunnel to infiltrate the territory of Israel.

The incident began when observers at the Atarot operations room identified several individuals digging at the site. Forces summoned to the scene attempted to make arrests, but the suspects fled upon their approach. During the subsequent foot chase, warning shots were fired into the air.

One suspect, who was in Israel without a legal permit, was apprehended. He led the fighters to the shaft, where digging tools and numerous buckets used for the excavation were recovered.

The suspect and the evidence have been transferred to the investigation and intelligence office of the Jerusalem Envelope Border Police. The police stated that the investigation is ongoing and further arrests are expected.
