An August of Intoxication in Jerusalem
In August, the pace of events in the capital reaches its peak. All major festivals are returning—from Hutzot HaYotzer to Totzeret HaAretz—alongside attractions ranging from ice skating to night adventures at museums, special tours, and workshops for the whole family.
Jubilee Celebrations
The month opens with a bang with the flagship event of the Jerusalem summer, celebrating its jubilee year: the Hutzot HaYotzer 2026 fair at the Sultan's Pool (July 30 to August 13). The fair features about 100 art and display stalls from across the country, special wooden exhibits, and a rich, kosher culinary complex. Nightly performances at 21:00 will feature top artists, including Shlomo Artzi, Moshik Afia, and Avraham Fried.
Culinary Intoxication
August concludes with an alcoholic and culinary celebration for those aged 18 and over: the "Totzeret HaAretz 2" festival at the Bible Lands Museum (August 26–27). This two-day event connects the past and present, blending modern local distilleries with ancient brewing techniques. Visitors will enjoy 12 boutique distillery stalls, a unique cocktail bar using local ingredients, bold Israeli cuisine, live music, and fascinating tours of the museum galleries on the culture of ancient banquets.
Meanwhile, the Jerusalem Theatre celebrates 20 years of the End of Summer Festival (August 25–27) with three days of music, theatre, and festive premieres accompanied by unique video-art works. The program includes performances by Full Trunk, Benaya Barabi, and Shlomit Aharon, alongside stand-up and children's theatre.
Landscape, Breeze, and Sounds
The "On the Roof" Festival returns for its fifth year (August 18–20) at the Jerusalem Music Centre, Mishkenot Sha'ananim. This year features three sunset concerts with views of the Old City and the refreshing Jerusalem breeze. Highlights include the Yagel Harush ensemble performing "Songs in the Light of the Night."
Family Fun and Cool Attractions
The International Puppet Festival of the Train Theatre celebrates its 36th year (August 16–20) with plays, street performances, and contemporary circus acts. For those seeking to beat the heat, the "Ice Box" skating complex returns to the Teddy Stadium eastern stand parking lot. This modern 1,300-square-meter ice rink is part of the Arena PARK family entertainment complex, which also features an impressive water park.
To assist parents during the summer vacation, the municipality is hosting a camping festival in 7 municipal gardens (August 6 and 13). Additionally, several city sites are extending their hours: the Southern Wall Promenade will be open until 21:00, Zedekiah's Cave until 18:00, and the Ancient Gate until 17:00.
Museum Adventures
Experience a dramatized night adventure at the Bible Lands Museum (August 12 and 19), produced by TAMI (The Israeli Museum Theatre). Throughout August, families can also enjoy the "Jerusalem of Gold" smartphone photography workshop at sunset, the adventurous "Time Tunnel" tour in Zedekiah's Cave, and the "Secrets of the Past" archaeology workshop at the National Archaeology Campus, where children can try their hand at ancient crafts.
