British sanctions on West Bank settlements have sparked a wave of online antisemitic hate speech and collective attacks against the UK Jewish community, monitors report.
UK Sanctions Fuel Antisemitic Wave Online
The British government's decision to impose new sanctions and an import ban on goods from West Bank settlements has triggered a sharp and immediate wave of antisemitic incitement on social media, targeting the Jewish community in the United Kingdom.
According to a special monitoring report published by the Community Security Trust and the Campaign Against Antisemitism (FOA), hate speech surged following the September 8 announcement. Researchers identified hundreds of abusive posts that quickly shifted the political debate into collective attacks against British Jews.
Patterns of Hate and Dual Loyalty Claims
Prominent patterns identified by researchers include blaming British Jews for Israeli government policies, dual loyalty tropes, explicit comparisons to the Holocaust, and calls for Jews to maintain a low profile. Attacks were also directed at community leaders, including Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis.
"Decisions that may seem diplomatic take on an entirely different dimension when they concern Israel, as they have direct implications for local Jewish communities," said Tomer Aldubi, CEO of the FOA.
Aldubi urged the British government to recognize the consequences of its actions and engage in direct dialogue with Jewish leadership to ensure community safety.
