Trump Dismisses Cabinet Shakeup Amid Midterm Defeat and Iran Policy Scrutiny
Following midterm election losses, US President Donald Trump dismissed plans for cabinet changes despite reports questioning Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's future amid criticism over the conflict with Iran.

Following the Republican setback in the US midterm elections, reports have emerged regarding potential turmoil within the administration. According to CBS reports, US President Donald Trump has weighed the future of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis mentioned as a possible replacement. However, Trump has made it clear that he does not plan any cabinet changes in the wake of the election results.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump was directly asked by host Bret Baier whether he intends to reshuffle his cabinet following the defeat. "No, I don't think so. It has nothing to do with my cabinet," the president replied, stating that the results reflect a specific political moment rather than a failure of his ministers. The Washington Examiner and the New York Post also covered the developments.
According to the Washington Examiner, White House officials assessed that Hegseth could become a focal point of criticism due to his advice regarding the ongoing military conflict with Iran, which is seen as a key factor in the Republican defeat. Democrats have already raised the possibility of seeking his removal, and some Republicans have previously voiced concerns.
DeSantis, who ran against Trump in the 2024 Republican primaries, is a former US Navy officer who served in Iraq. While his name has previously been floated for the Pentagon, there is currently no independent confirmation that his candidacy is being reconsidered. Despite Trump's public denial regarding cabinet shifts, the election defeat and scrutiny over the conflict with Iran continue to exert pressure on the administration.
