Trump Rejects Iran Proposal as Qatar-Mediated Talks Stall Without Breakthrough
U.S. President Donald Trump rejected Tehran's proposal as indirect negotiations mediated by Qatar ended without a breakthrough, leaving parties close to conflict.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that he will inform the Iranian government regarding the receipt of the American response in negotiations, as the Iranian government spokesperson updated on her X account. This follows U.S. President Donald Trump's public announcement rejecting Tehran's proposal.
Earlier, a source familiar with the negotiations told Channel 13 that the talks mediated by Qatar concluded without a breakthrough or agreements on a ceasefire, with some delegations already leaving the U.S. The source added that "the parties are still closer to war than to an agreement" and noted that "the positions have hardened."
Regional Diplomatic Efforts
Concurrently, Arab nations continue their efforts with the Iranians to reach agreements on expanding the freedom of navigation zone in the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, President Trump denied an Axios report claiming he was willing to grant Iran sanctions relief and the release of frozen Iranian funds in exchange for "tangible steps regarding the nuclear program." In a post on his TRUTH Social network, he wrote: "This is not true. I offered them nothing. The story, like most others, is nothing more than a hoax designed to feed Derangement Syndrome. They must retract this fake story—and immediately."
Indirect Contacts and Statements
"The Qatari and Pakistani mediation channels have become more serious after Iran presented its plan," stated Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, following Reuters reports of indirect contacts between U.S. and representatives.
According to reports citing an informed source, Araghchi will remain with the Qatari delegation in the U.S. to advance contacts, focusing on a revised text for a week-long ceasefire proposal presented by Iran at the UN General Assembly.
Meanwhile, Iranian state media published a statement attributed to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, declaring that "the enemy dares not enter the Gulf," claiming Iranian forces repelled them from the country's south toward the Arabian Sea. He warned that the Iranian military would soon act to drive the enemy out of the Arabian Sea and that the entire region would be "purified."
