US President Donald Trump promised to grant 5,000 USD to every adult American citizen if Republicans win the midterm elections and maintain control of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The promise was made at the Republican convention in Texas, where Trump sought to frame the November vote as a referendum on his presidency.
"If the Republicans win the elections in the House and the Senate, because of our tremendous economic success, I will distribute a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States amounting to 5,000 USD," Trump said.
Restrictions and Congressional Approval
Trump noted that the grant would carry a single restriction: it could only be spent within the United States, dubbing it the "Trump Dividend." However, even if his party wins, the president cannot distribute the funds independently, as such a payment would require congressional approval and budgetary allocation by law.
Stance on Iran and the Strait of Hormuz
Turning to foreign policy, Trump made controversial remarks regarding Iran and international shipping lanes. He stated that he would rename the Strait of Hormuz the "Trump Strait," adding that a formal declaration would follow.
"The Iranians won't be happy about it. They were the bully of the Middle East, but now their country is falling apart," Trump declared, reiterating his administration's hardline stance against Tehran's nuclear ambitions.
