TikTok Israel Battles Fake News and Promotes Civil Discourse Ahead of Elections
TikTok Israel partners with content creators and bereaved families to promote civil discourse ahead of the upcoming Knesset elections, enforcing strict bans on paid political ads.

As the upcoming elections approach, social media platforms are witnessing a massive surge in political content from creators and influencers. While some figures dedicate their feeds to direct political analysis, many top content creators choose a different path, focusing instead on fostering civil discourse and fighting online toxicity. TikTok Israel recently hosted a special gathering at its Tel Aviv offices, bringing together leading non-political content creators and representatives of the 'Dibur' initiative—founded by bereaved families from the October 7 tragedy.
The initiative aims to curb aggressive rhetoric online and in public spaces, particularly surrounding the Knesset and media. Sarit Zusman, whose son Ben fell in combat in Gaza, emphasized during the meeting that civil disagreement is healthy for a democracy, but hatred and incitement must be rejected. Popular creators such as Alex Schultz, Amit Ben David, Alina Rabinovich, and Avia Hochman participated in the discussion, sharing their perspectives on why they consciously choose to keep their platforms free from direct political endorsements while championing positivity.
TikTok Israel has implemented strict measures to protect the integrity of the electoral process, enforcing a complete ban on paid political advertising. Unlike other platforms that permit sponsored candidate ads, TikTok strictly requires all political content to remain organic. According to Lior Weintraub, Vice President of Public Policy at TikTok Israel, the platform does not profit from elections, and no money can be spent to boost political messaging.
To combat misinformation, TikTok established a dedicated command center operating around the clock until election results are certified. The platform's quarterly transparency report highlighted aggressive enforcement, with over 45,000 videos violating election integrity policies removed between June and September. Furthermore, the system successfully neutralized foreign influence operations originating from Iran alongside domestic coordinated networks, reinforcing the platform's commitment to authentic civic engagement.
