A Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court sentenced 31-year-old kindergarten assistant Tanya Grinstein to four months and 15 days of community service for assaulting three toddlers aged 14 to 17 months. Grinstein was convicted on her own confession of 12 counts of aggravated assault of a minor by a person in charge, committed between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM.

According to the indictment, the assistant lifted toddlers with one hand and seated them forcefully on a beanbag, dragged a mattress while a toddler was lying on it with his head dangling toward the floor, and repeatedly slammed toddlers onto the mattress. She also shook cribs violently to put children to sleep, and when one of them raised his head, she pushed his back, causing his head to strike the crib railing.

The prosecution, represented by Adv. Ariel Getnyo, argued for a sentencing range of 14 to 28 actual months in prison. The defense attorney, Adv. Ari Shamai, asked to settle for community service, noting that Grinstein had not received professional childcare training.

Judge Itai Hermelin, who reviewed all the surveillance footage documenting the assaults, stated that "the case before me does not involve a sadistic or vindictive caregiver," but rather someone lacking childcare skills who behaved aggressively and improperly. However, he emphasized that "anyone who chooses to care for children, and all the more so toddlers who have just learned to walk, must treat them gently."

The toddlers sustained no physical injuries. The judge set a sentencing range of up to ten months of actual imprisonment, converted to community service. Due to being the mother of an infant, Grinstein will serve her sentence six hours a day following her maternity leave. Additionally, she must compensate each of the toddlers with 3,200 shekels. Concluding the verdict, the judge appealed to kindergarten managers, urging them to ensure that tasks assigned to caregivers match their qualifications.
