What began as an investigation into a series of dangerous arson attacks in central Israel has evolved into the exposure of a violent and sophisticated extortion ring. Investigators from the Tel Aviv District Central Unit, alongside officers from the Tel Aviv South police station, dismantled a criminal network that operated on two parallel tracks: massive extortion of innocent citizens using online "honeytraps" and a violent underworld conflict involving the arson of residential buildings.

The arson cases unfolded over recent weeks against the backdrop of an underworld dispute targeting a 41-year-old Tel Aviv resident. On October 12, the lobby of a residential building in Holon was set on fire, while apartments on Ben Yehuda and HaYarkon streets in central Tel Aviv were simultaneously targeted.

Alongside the arson probe, police uncovered a modus operandi targeting numerous victims. According to suspicions, gang members contacted men via Telegram by posing as minors, arranging to meet them at designated apartments for intimate encounters. Once the victims arrived, suspects ambushed them, beat them severely, and extorted hundreds of thousands of shekels under threats of violence and exposure.

During a covert investigation, detectives and tactical forces arrested two arson suspects red-handed: a 43-year-old resident of Hadera and a man in his 20s from Rehovot. Further investigation led to the identification of the 24-year-old mastermind from Ashdod, who allegedly directed the arsonists, and a fourth suspect in his 30s from Tel Aviv linked to the assaults and extortion.

The four suspects were brought before the Tel Aviv Magistrates' Court, where police requested extensions for aggravated extortion, assault, and conspiracy. The court extended their detention until November 4 as the investigation continues.
