Susan Sarandon Claims Hollywood Blacklist Continues Over Her Palestine Stance
Actress Susan Sarandon revealed at the Venice Film Festival that Hollywood agencies continue to block her from film roles due to her pro-Palestinian stance, though she feels welcomed internationally.
Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon, a prominent voice against Israel in Hollywood, addressed her current standing in the film industry during a press conference at the Venice Film Festival. Promoting her new Italian film, Sarandon revealed that she continues to lose movie roles due to her outspoken support for Palestine.
Industry Blacklist and Agency Pressure
Sarandon, who was previously dropped by her talent agency and lost several production deals following her comments after the outbreak of the war in Gaza, confirmed that the backlash within Hollywood remains active.
Addressing her status in the industry, Sarandon stated:
"In terms of the power structure, I’ve still had movies taken away recently because there are agencies that are still telling people not to employ me. But that is how power is structured. Among the public, especially internationally, I feel very welcome."
Collaboration with Andrea Pallaoro
In her latest project, "The Echo Chamber"—based on the final screenplay written by the late Bernardo Bertolucci—Sarandon collaborated with Italian director Andrea Pallaoro. According to the actress, industry figures advised Pallaoro against hiring her, but he chose to ignore the warnings.
Sarandon expressed her gratitude, adding:
"I thank him for that, because he didn't listen to the warnings. In terms of the general public, there has been a shift, but there are still positions in the industry held by Zionists who have not let go of their feelings toward me. But I found my family, I found my people, and I'm fine."
She also noted that the historical narrative regarding Palestine is changing in America as more people realize the scale of financial aid the United States provides to Israel.
