On police recommendation: Security for Central Elections Committee Chairman Noam Sohlberg has been increased

The police have instructed to increase security for the Chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Judge Noam Sohlberg. The decision was made in the last two weeks, and close protection began in recent days.

The Central Elections Committee stated:

"The Chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Judge Noam Sohlberg, is secured in accordance with security needs and the instructions of the Israel Police. Naturally, we cannot provide further details regarding the security format."

The security for Sohlberg comes against the backdrop of threats against him in the context of the role he fulfills in the upcoming elections, and alongside the demonstrations directed at him as Deputy President of the Supreme Court regarding the Court's position on the conscription of ultra-Orthodox individuals.

On June 3, dozens of rioters arrived at his home in Alon Shvut, broke windows in the house and in the judge's wife's car, caused damage to the entrance, and broke vases and flower pots. Posters were thrown into the yard featuring a picture of Sohlberg and the inscription "Remove your hands from the persecution of ultra-Orthodox Judaism," and Israeli flags with swastikas were placed on the street. 63 ultra-Orthodox individuals who took part in the riot were arrested, some of them yeshiva students who were defined as draft evaders.

Sohlberg was defined as a "threatened person" at level 4 out of 6 as early as the beginning of June. The meaning of this declaration is at the very least security cameras connected to the police, as well as patrol cars that regularly toured the area of his home.
