Success in the qualifiers: three Israelis in the European Swimming Championship semifinals
Anastasia Gorbenko took first place in the 200m individual medley, Lea Polonsky qualified in eighth place. Tom Mienis set a personal best in the 100m backstroke and also secured a spot for the evening session.
A great performance for the Israeli national team in the morning session of the European Swimming Championship: three Israeli swimmers secured their places in the semifinals, with Anastasia Gorbenko shining above all. Gorbenko (Maccabi Kiryat Bialik) qualified for the semifinals in the 200m individual medley with the first overall result in the qualifiers, setting a time of 2:11.87 minutes and leading her heat safely from start to finish. In the same event, the Israeli team recorded a double qualification, as Lea Polonsky (Maccabi Haifa) also secured a ticket to the semifinals from eighth place overall, with a time of 2:13.43 minutes. The two will compete for a spot in the final this evening starting at 20:35.
The third representative of Israel in the semifinal stage this evening is Tom Mienis (Maccabi Haifa), who set a great personal best in the 100m backstroke – 1:01.19 minutes. Mienis finished in 16th place overall and will compete in the semifinals this evening starting at 19:50. In the same event, Aviv Barzelay (Maccabi Haifa) finished in 24th place.
In other heats held this morning: Daria Golovaty (Hapoel Bat Yam) was ranked 38th in the 50m freestyle qualifiers with a time of 25.94 seconds, while Mark Taller (Maccabi Marom Ramat Gan) finished 39th in the 50m breaststroke qualifiers with a result of 27.90 seconds.
