Serious suspicion at Glilot base: theft and sale of tens of thousands of medications

The police, the Ministry of Defense, and the IDF reported on Monday that a group of pharmacists at the Glilot base is suspected of stealing tens of thousands of medications intended for IDF soldiers and trading them privately. Over the past few months, a covert investigation was conducted by the Erazim unit (investigations department) in the Ministry of Defense's Security Department (MALMAB) and the Dan District unit of the Military Police, with the assistance of the Ministry of Health's Enforcement Division.

At the center of the investigation are suspicions against two veteran pharmacists: a head pharmacist at the Glilot base and another pharmacist, both employed as external suppliers by the Ministry of Defense. Investigation materials indicate that the pharmacists fraudulently misappropriated tens of thousands of medications, including prescription drugs, and systematically traded them on the "black market," pocketing tens of thousands of shekels.

"Trading in medications that cannot be used without a medical prescription and require accompanying tests before being taken poses a danger to public health," investigators stated.

Following the transition of the investigation to the public phase, both pharmacists were arrested and brought for questioning at the Erazim unit. They are suspected of theft by an authorized person, obtaining benefits by fraud under aggravating circumstances, and negligent acts in violation of the Pharmacists Ordinance. A request to extend their detention will be filed at the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court.

Simultaneously, additional suspects have been detained for questioning. The Military Police are continuing to investigate other individuals involved, with their cases being handled by the Military Prosecution.
