Israeli Tech Firms Silk and HoneyBook Lay Off Staff to Embrace AI Era
Two Israeli tech firms, Silk and HoneyBook, laid off dozens of employees this week, restructuring operations to integrate artificial intelligence tools into software development and business management.

Two Israeli high-tech companies laid off dozens of employees this week, driven by the realization that artificial intelligence tools can replace roles previously manned by humans, particularly in software development. Silk, a Yoqneam-based startup founded by former Kaminario executive Danny Golan, reportedly laid off over 30 employees—amounting to roughly 25% of its research and development staff. The cuts focused on testing departments and software development broadly, coinciding with a $45 million funding and debt financing round led by Avenue Capital, alongside existing investors including S Capital, Pitango, Ibex, Sequoia, and Vintage.
Strategic Pivot and New Technologies
Silk is currently evaluating the launch of a new technology designed to compete in markets dominated by Israeli giants like VAST Data and Weka, focusing on enterprise AI data storage management. According to PitchBook, Silk has raised an impressive $458 million since its inception in 2019. The company recently rolled out a new technology giving businesses high transparency over their AI storage management, uniquely aligned with NVIDIA processors.
HoneyBook Cuts Amid AI Transition
Another prominent Israeli firm, HoneyBook, laid off 35 of its 255 employees—about 14% of its workforce. Founded by Oz Alon, Naama Alon, and Dror Shimoni, the company developed management software for small businesses, facilitating marketing, project management, and invoicing. HoneyBook has raised $500 million to date, boasting a valuation of approximately $2 billion following its latest funding round.
"The company is leading a reorganization process aimed at aligning its structure and work processes with the AI era," HoneyBook stated. "This decision is made out of financial strength and strategic focus, with the goal of making us a faster and more agile organization."
