Shin Bet Appointments Spark Internal Criticism Ahead of Elections
Shin Bet chief David Zini's recent high-level appointments spark internal criticism over timing and the placement of an inexperienced IDF officer.
Director of the Shin Bet David Zini announced a series of high-level department head appointments, equivalent to IDF major general ranks, just weeks before the upcoming elections.
One specific appointment has drawn sharp internal criticism within the security agency. An IDF brigadier general, lacking prior intelligence or special unit experience, was appointed to a sensitive role responsible for countering terror among Arab citizens of Israel.
Critics within the agency questioned the move, with one official comparing it to placing a Shin Bet field coordinator in command of an IDF division. Concerns were also raised regarding the timing, as critics suspect the rapid appointments are an attempt to secure approvals before the elections.
In response, the Shin Bet defended the appointments, stating they were conducted as part of a pre-scheduled rotation according to term lengths and carried out professionally based on merit.
