From Reality TV to Kids' Star: Shay Mika Debuts as Mikala
Former reality star Shay Mika is launching a career as a children's entertainer under the stage name Mikala, aiming to fill a gap for young pre-teen girls.
Shay Mika, known as a former winner of the Big Brother reality show, is launching a new career as a children's star. Under the stage name Mikala, Mika released her debut single on Thursday.
In an interview with mako, Mika explained that she is targeting a specific audience of young girls who currently lack dedicated idols: "The idea was to appeal to girls who are past the age of toddler stars, right up to those celebrating their bat mitzvah, after which they transition to artists like Noa Kirel and Anna Zak. There was nothing in the middle—everything was either too childish or too mature."
In an Instagram post, Mika shared that Yuval Shem-Tov (known as Yuval HaMabulbal) helped mentor her at the start of this new path. "Over a year ago, I came to Yuval Shem-Tov with a dream—to create something new for girls who are too old for the little kids' world, yet still want to sing, dance, dress colorfully, and stay in a magical world of their own," she wrote. "We sat, dreamed, and wrote songs, and today the first song is finally out."
