Shahar Sagiv Finishes 12th at Tongyeong World Cup, 23 Seconds Off Podium
Israeli triathlete Shahar Sagiv finished 12th at the World Cup in Tongyeong, South Korea, missing the podium by 23 seconds and earning crucial points for the 2028 Olympics.

Israeli Olympic triathlete Shahar Sagiv finished 12th on Saturday at the World Cup in Tongyeong, South Korea, coming just 23 seconds short of the podium.
Competing in the sprint distance—consisting of a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer cycling leg, and a 5-kilometer run—the 32-year-old athlete secured crucial ranking points toward the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The race featured 65 participants competing under challenging conditions marked by heavy rain and temperatures of 17 degrees Celsius. Sagiv started strongly, showing marked improvement in the swimming segment as he exited in tenth place, trailing the leading group of nine by just five seconds.
A costly transition from cycling to running dropped him temporarily to 40th place, but Sagiv mounted a powerful comeback, posting the seventh-fastest running time of the day to climb 28 positions and finish 12th.
Sagiv is set to return to Israel shortly before competing in Abu Dhabi in three weeks for the final event of his 2026 season.
