Clarence Seedorf Appointed New Head Coach of Struggling Brazilian Club Corinthians
Brazilian club Corinthians has appointed Dutch football legend Clarence Seedorf as its new head coach on a contract until the end of next year, tasking him with saving the team from relegation.
Brazilian powerhouse Corinthians has officially appointed Dutch football legend Clarence Seedorf as its new head coach. The 50-year-old manager takes over a struggling squad that is currently battling relegation in the Brazilian top flight, marking his first coaching role since 2019.
Seedorf has signed a contract running until the end of next year. He replaces Fernando Diniz, who was dismissed following a dismal run of seven consecutive league defeats with a roster that includes Dutch forward Memphis Depay. Corinthians currently sits 16th out of 20 teams in the standings, just one spot above the relegation zone.
Throughout his managerial career, Seedorf has experienced limited success, with his previous club stints—including at AC Milan and Deportivo La Coruña—each lasting less than six months. His last coaching assignment was a brief spell with the Cameroon national team over seven years ago.
As a player, Seedorf enjoyed a legendary career, notably finishing his playing days in Brazil with Botafogo. He remains the only player in history to win the UEFA Champions League with three different clubs: Ajax in 1995, Real Madrid in 1998, and AC Milan in 2003 and 2007.
