Sara Netanyahu addressed Yair Golan – and the Democrats launched an attack

The Democrats party harshly criticized the Prime Minister's wife, Sara Netanyahu, this Monday, following her remarks in an exclusive interview with Channel 14 presenter Tal Meir. In their statement, the party accused Netanyahu of "spreading conspiracy theories" against the Democrats' chairman, Yair Golan, and also criticized Channel 14 for airing the interview.

During the conversation, Netanyahu addressed the incident where the hair salon she was in in Tel Aviv was surrounded by protesters. As part of the criticism she leveled at Golan regarding his reaction to that incident, Netanyahu also mentioned his activities on the morning of October 7.

"When you are a military man of such a high rank, claiming you are a fighter on October 7, you were already there early in the morning, already dressed and ready, — Netanyahu said. — At a very early hour, that others did not know, such as the Prime Minister. Who is the Prime Minister anyway that he needs to know that a war is breaking out?! Why inform him?"

Following these remarks, the Democrats party stated:

"The Democrats party strongly condemns the slanderous and false words of Sara Netanyahu. Spreading conspiracies against General Yair Golan, and blackening his heroism on October 7, is crossing a red line bordering on madness."

It was further stated on behalf of the party: "While Netanyahu looked for excuses, Yair Golan charged in and saved lives. The facts will not change, no matter how much the Netanyahu family and Channel 14 try to rewrite them."

However, it is important to note that later in the same interview, when Meir asked Netanyahu explicitly about the "betrayal theory" surrounding the events of October 7, the Prime Minister's wife refrained from adopting it and clarified that she does not have information that allows her to determine this.

"I don't want to talk. I am not a party to any theories and I don't know," Netanyahu said, adding that in her view, one should wait for a real commission of inquiry.

Earlier in the interview, Netanyahu addressed the fact that the Prime Minister, according to her, was not updated in the hours leading up to the attack. "I am just saying that it is clear that this is not normal," she said. According to her, if her husband had received the information in time, the reaction of the political echelon would have been different: "I think that if he had known, most of what happened would not have occurred. It would have been handled differently."

Netanyahu emphasized that her words are based on her knowledge of the Prime Minister's conduct in security situations: "Even if he feels a particle of danger, he would not have let this happen." She later qualified that she is not claiming the entire attack could necessarily have been prevented, but that in her opinion, early preparation could have significantly reduced the results of the terrible massacre.
